Mukteshwar Dham Yatra 2025 – A Family’s Sacred Mountain Journey from Ahmedabad
It was a crisp morning in early June when Patel Bhai, the spiritual guide of his family, gathered 9 other family members at their home in Ahmedabad. Everyone—from grandparents to grandchildren—was excited and spiritually charged for a pilgrimage to the serene Mukteshwar Dham, nestled in the hills of Kumaon, Uttarakhand.
Departure from Ahmedabad
They began their journey in a comfortable traveller van, singing bhajans and sharing snacks prepared by Patel Kaki. Patel Bhai, known for his calm demeanor and deep knowledge of Shiva Purana, explained the significance of Mukteshwar Dham—a place where Lord Shiva granted moksha (liberation) to a demon and where spiritual seekers come to find peace.
The first halt was Delhi, followed by an overnight stay in Haldwani, where the weather turned cooler, and the air felt fresher.
En Route to Mukteshwar – Into the Lap of Nature
From Haldwani, the ascent toward Mukteshwar began. As the van zigzagged up the lush green mountains, mist surrounded the valleys, and the scent of pine and oak filled the air. Kids leaned out of the window to catch glimpses of monkeys and waterfalls. The entire family paused midway at a local village dhaba, where they relished hot Aloo Parathas and Buransh juice, a Kumaoni specialty.
Arrival at Mukteshwar Dham
Finally, they reached Mukteshwar, a peaceful hamlet perched at 7,500 feet. The star attraction—the Mukteshwar Mahadev Temple—sits quietly on a hilltop, believed to be over 350 years old. Surrounded by deodar trees and echoing with temple bells, it felt like time had slowed down.
Patel Bhai led the family in offering abhishek to Lord Shiva. The priest, seeing the large group, blessed them with rudraksha beads and narrated stories of the temple’s connection to the Mahabharata.

As the family sat in meditation near the temple’s edge, they were treated to a stunning view of the snow-capped Nanda Devi and Trishul peaks. It was a divine moment—silence, serenity, and a connection to something far beyond.
Exploring Mukteshwar
The journey didn’t end at the temple. They trekked to the famous Chauli ki Jali, a cliff near the temple with mythological significance. The local guide explained how women seeking blessings for children come here, and how spiritual seekers meditate on these rocks.
Children played near the apple orchards, elders interacted with local pahadi villagers, and everyone enjoyed home-cooked Kumaoni meals at the homestay—madua roti, gahat ki daal, and bhatt ki churkani.
Returning with Peace in Heart
After two days of peace, devotion, and reflection, the group started their return journey. The atmosphere in the van was calm and joyous. There was laughter, shared memories, and spiritual satisfaction. Even the teenagers who were unsure at the start now said, “Next year, let’s go to Kedarnath too!”
Patel Bhai smiled—he had led not just a yatra, but a family transformation. Mukteshwar Dham had offered them more than blessings—it offered togetherness, healing, and silence in the noise of modern life.
